Abandon by Meg Cabot
Hardcover, 304 pages
Published April 26th 2011 by Point
Summary:
New from #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, a dark, fantastical story about this world . . . and the underworld.
Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.
But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.
Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.
But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.
My Review:
Wow! This book was amazing! I don't know why people don't like it; I've read some negative reviews on this book.
I seriously have a crush on John. Like really, he's gorgeous. Even though he did kinda kidnap her, but he didn't! She asked for it. I guess it was creepy about that bed part though. While she was there, I was mentally telling her not to eat or drink anything because I was thinking of the Persephone and Hades myth where he trapped her in the underworld because she ate those pomegranate seeds. She didn't eat anything though, so that was good. I very much liked where she threw the tea at his face!
I feel so bad for Hannah though. Really, her suicide is real in the world and I felt so sad when I heard about it. And Mr. Mauller or something did it to her! It's his fault she died. (You guys should know, whenever I don't like a character or something, I forgot their namAes and it's really annoying for me.)
One thing I'm confused about was the tassels. I did not catch on to why they were bad. I mean, whenever she saw tassels she immediately went into defense mode. I didn't understand. Well, I kinda do. I mean, her scarf had tassels; She died while wearing it. Mr. Mauller had tasseled shoes; He was the one who made Hannah die. Her grandma made the tassel scarves; She turns out to be a ____. Not telling you guys! Don't want to spoil!
The end was kind of a shocker for me! I mean, really? He would do that. Even if she didn't want it. They end up back to where they were in the beginning. Literally.
Overall, I love this book so much I'm going to buy it and the sequel! (I got my copy from the library) I cannot wait to find out what happens next! 4.5 Stars!
