Summary:
Dark myths, medieval secrets, intrigue, and romance populate the pages of the first-ever teen series from #1 bestselling author of The Other Boleyn Girl.Italy, 1453. Seventeen-year-old Luca Vero is brilliant, gorgeous—and accused of heresy. Cast out of his religious order for using the new science to question old superstitious beliefs, Luca is recruited into a secret sect: The Order of the Dragon, commissioned by Pope Nicholas V to investigate evil and danger in its many forms, and strange occurrences across Europe, in this year—the end of days.
Isolde is a seventeen-year-old girl shut up in a nunnery so she can’t inherit any of her father’s estate. As the nuns walk in their sleep and see strange visions, Isolde is accused of witchcraft—and Luca is sent to investigate her, but finds himself plotting her escape.
Despite their vows, despite themselves, love grows between Luca and Isolde as they travel across Europe with their faithful companions, Freize and Ishraq. The four young people encounter werewolves, alchemists, witches, and death-dancers as they head toward a real-life historical figure who holds the boundaries of Christendom and the secrets of the Order of the Dragon.

My Review:

This book was okay! It was kinda fast though, and went everywhere! I'm glad it wasn't like the author's other books, with all the....inappropriateness.

Let me just start out with this. The word Changeling. What is it. The author never went into it. She had just about one sentence saying how Luca was a changeling and that was it. So what exactly is a changeling? We don't know because the author was too preoccupied with all the useless aspects of the story.

And I just noticed while reading the summary. Half the things said in it weren't even mentioned in the book. I don't remember hearing about any Order of The Dragon, nor did she even mention who the Pope was. They just called him the Pope. She didn't even properly introduce who the Pope was.

Also, about the story, she just hops from place to place, plot to plot. At first, they were at the nunnery and in my opinion, she should have just stopped there. After all the business with the nunnery was finished, she should have stopped. But no, she had to continue on with the werewolf and that's where it started to get boring for me. If she had ended the book with what happened in the nunnery, then it would've have been okay, but she just had to continue on, dragging the story with her.

And to think. This is only the first book in this series.

Overall, this book wasn't as great as I thought it would be. I've read a couple of Philippa Gregory's other books and I hoped it would be as nice as them, but they weren't. 3 Stars.
