Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Hardcover, 563 pages
Published December 1st 2009 by Little, Brown and Company
Summary:
There were no surprises in Gatlin County. We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere. At least, that's what I thought.Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong. There was a curse. There was a girl. And in the end, there was a grave.
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
My Review:
I was actually expecting a lot more from this book than it gave me, so forgive me if this review is short!
Also, I thought it was really cool that this was in a guy's point of view. I haven't read much like that!
This book started out slow for me. I guess because I read over a long span of time. It was like my, "Gosh I'm bored! Let me read this" book. I finally finished it though, after about a month. But really, it was slow. Slow. Slow. It dragged on for what, 563 pages. When I was about two thirds into the book, I remember thinking it should have ended there.
I really liked the idea of the story. I thought that the song was creepy though. Sixteen moons, sixteen years. I still don't understand how that song got everywhere. Even in his ipod.
I do like Ethan and Lena's relationship. They got really close in such a short time though, so I don't really like that part. I mean, she could be a murderer or something! But she's not.
And Mason was amazing. I don't care that he did all that he did, I love him. He is the best person ever ever ever.
Okay, so the only reason I don't like this book is because this was a 'bathroom book' That's what I call books you could just go and read in the tub with. You don't have to actually understand what went on with it, it just looks cool that you're reading in a tub. Haha. Plus, it was slooow. Slow. Slow.
Overall, this book was okay! I'm hoping to borrow copies of the other books in the series because I do want to find out what happened! 3.5 Stars.
