Stitch by Samantha Durante
Paperback, 314 pages
Published August 1st 2012 by Samantha Durante
Summary:
Her heart races, her muscles coil, and every impulse in Alessa's body screams at her to run... but yet she's powerless to move.
Still struggling to find her footing after the sudden death of her parents, the last thing college freshman Alessa has the strength to deal with is the inexplicable visceral pull drawing her to a handsome ghostly presence. In between grappling with exams and sorority soirees - and disturbing recurring dreams of being captive in a futuristic prison hell - Alessa is determined to unravel the mystery of the apparition who leaves her breathless. But the terrifying secret she uncovers will find her groping desperately through her nightmares for answers.
Because what Alessa hasn't figured out yet is that she's not really a student, the object of her obsession is no ghost, and her sneaking suspicions that something sinister is lurking behind the walls of her university's idyllic campus are only just scratching the surface...
The opening installment in a twist-laden trilogy, Stitch spans the genres of paranormal romance and dystopian sci-fi to explore the challenges of a society in transition, where morality, vision, and pragmatism collide leaving the average citizen to suffer the results.
My Review:
This was a really good read! I have to admit, it was a bit slow the first 50 pages in, but then, it really kicked in the rest of the book!
I was actually a bit bored and kinda scared reading how Alessa kept on encountering her 'ghost' and her life. I had no idea that the book would be like this. The summary doesn't even give really good clues about it either! At first, I thought it would just be her trying to find out and help her 'ghost', but no. It's not like that at all! It will really surprise you and leave you thinking, what happened?!
I like Alessa and Isaac's relationship, though I do feel a bit cringy whenever I read them being all lovey because I keep thinking of Joe and how he would feel if he saw them like that.
And I don't approve of Alessa's actions during her time as a 21st century college student, no offense to you Samantha! She should have been more active! I mean, she did join a sorority, but oh well.
Anyways, I have to say, I got a bit confused once the author started switching point of views. At first it was all Alessa's and then it was Isaac's and there was nothing that told me that they changed views.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! You might read the summary and think that it won't be good, but it will keep you on your toes the whole way through! (Well, at least to me after those college days!) 4.5 Stars!
