Young. Wealthy. Defiant. Beautiful. Dangerous.
It's 1924...
And anything goes.

Ingenue by Jillian Larkin

{Book 2 of The Flappers Series}

Hardcover351 pages
Published August 9th 2011 by Random House Children's Books

Summary:

Power . . . love . . . scandal . . .There’s never enough to go around.
In the city that never sleeps, Lorraine Dyer is wide awake. Ever since she exposed Clara Knowles for the tramp she was—and lost her closest confidante in the process—Lorraine has spent every second scheming to make her selfish, lovesick ex–best friend pay for what she did. No one crosses Lorraine. Not even Gloria.
True love conquers everything—or so Gloria Carmody crazily believed. She and Jerome Johnson can barely scrape together cash for their rent, let alone have a moment to whisper sweet nothings in the dark. And if they thought escaping Chicago meant they’d get away with murder . . . they were dead wrong.
Clara was sure that once handsome, charming Marcus Eastman discovered her shameful secret, he’d drop her like a bad habit. Instead, he swept her off her feet and whisked her away to New York. Being with Marcus is a breath of fresh air—and a chance for Clara to leave her wild flapper ways firmly in the past. Except the dazzling parties and bright lights won’t stop whispering her name. . . .
INGENUE is the second novel in the sexy, dangerous, and ridiculously romantic Flappers series set in the Roaring Twenties . . . where revenge is a dish best served cold.

My Review:

I actually don't really remember much about the first book, I read it a year ago! But I can say it was just as scandal-ish as this!
This book reminded me why I love historical fiction books! These books have it all — Drama, scandals, gossip, and romance!

I love the romance between Marcus and Clara, but I'm so sad it had to end that way. I mean, if he could forgive her before, why can't he now? But I understand that Marcus is hurt because she lied to him twice and he doesn't know if he should forgive her again. I really want their love story to work out though! I hope that Marcus can accept that Clara can't just give up the Flapper life just because he doesn't want her to be like her old self, but he should understand that it's difficult to give up what you've been living most of your life!  The Flapper life will always be in Clara's blood, even if he likes it or not.

Hank and Lorraine, though. I have to say, she deserved it. But, she made up for all the bad things she did in the end..kinda.  But this line really made my heart break for her:

Lorraine was watching Hank climb the stairs with a familiar expression on her face: It was the wistful way she'd always looked at Marcus......Lorraine let out a bitter laugh.Oh, you know me. I never seem to get it right when it comes to men.

But really, I feel bad for her. And Hank, you used her! Lorraine actually had real feelings for him, and he was using her the whole time! Just because she's a _____ doesn't mean she doesn't have a heart. I have to say, in the next book, I definitely want to see what happens between them.

But Gloria and Jerome. Gloria, did you really have to kill that guy? You could have just threatened to pull the trigger and make them go away. Then you wouldn't have to be in this rut.

Your dad though, he is just plain mean. He only cares about his image? Well, he threw that 'image' away when he left his wife for an 'exotic dancer'. And he loves her? Well. That still doesn't matter. He could have told his wife in person instead of in a telegram.

Overall, this book was great! Can't wait till I get a hold of the third book! 4 Stars!
